Romantically Non-Conforming (RNC) refers to those who do not conform to society's romantic lifestyle views. This includes, but isn't limited to:
- Aromantic individuals and those on the aromantic spectrum.
- Individuals who are romance-ambivalent, romance-neutral/romance-indifferent, romance-averse, or romance-repulsed.
- When one is disinterested, dislikes, or is repulsed by romantic activities.
- Romanceless and romantically loveless individuals.
It falls under non-conforming attraction. The sexual counterpart is sexually non-conforming.
History
The term was coined by FANDOM user Lime2342 around August 27, 2021. The term was coined through this page; however, the coiner also made a Tumblr post about the term on November 7, 2021.[1]
Flag
The romantically non-conforming flag was created by FANDOM user Lime2342 on August 30, 2021. Green represents aromantic individuals and the spectrum, red represents alloromantic individuals, and white represents community. Gray, as well as the fading of the red and green stripes into the gray stripe, represents being in the gray-area (non-conformity).
