Puffinhoarder or puffincollector is a term used to describe someone who hoards or collects labels of identities on the aromantic and/or asexual spectrums. A puffinhoarder may or may not be on both the aromantic and asexual spectrums, and can collect labels from either spectrum or both. A puffinhoarder may also be hoarding identities from either the aromantic or asexual spectrum, while still being on the other spectrum, for example one can hoard aromantic spectrum identities but not asexual spectrum identities while identifying as being on the asexual spectrum.
A puffinhoarder's actual identity isn't fluid, but one collects labels that one finds to be suitable for them. A puffinhoarder can have a complex identity and feel that one requires multiple identities to describe oneself accurately.
Anyone who collects labels of identities on the aromantic and/or asexual spectrums may identify as a puffincollector; puffinhoarder and similar -hoarder terms are often considered exclusive to those who view their term collecting as a form of hoarding.
A puffinhoarder who hoards aromantic spectrum identities may refer to themselves as arospec-puffinhoarders. In the same way, one who hoards asexual spectrum identities may refer to themselves as acespec-puffinhoarders.
History
The term was coined by Tumblr user confused-moon in May 2021. The name comes from puffin birds, matching other collector identities that are named after birds (such as turkeyhoarder and kiwihoarder). The user came up with the idea of naming the identity puffinhoarder after seeing a post by Tumblr user queerminnow featuring an aromantic spectrum label collector flag.
Flag
The puffincollector flags were all designed by Tumblr user confused-moon in May 2021. The black symbolizes the main colour of a puffin's feathers, the orange and yellow the colours of a puffin's beak, and the green symbolizes the aromantic spectrum.
The flag can be turned into an asexual spectrum-inclusive flag by adding a purple stripe, or an acespec-puffinhoarder specific flag by replacing the green stripe with purple.
