One of the oceangender flags, made by FANDOM user StariiArts

Oceangender is a xenogender that relates to or has a deep connection to the ocean. A person who is oceangender may relate to the storms out at seas where the person feels like they are harsh, cold, or distant to others and/or have frequent mood swings. An alternative definition is a gender that changes or is affected by being near the presence of the ocean. Additionally, it can be a gender with a connection to large bodies of water in general.

Oceangender may be used as an umbrella term for genders that are tied to ocean-related concepts.

    History

The first known coining of oceangender was on August 7, 2020 by Twitter user sh2buyaaa. They defined it as one's gender relating to, or having "a deep connection to oceans, [or] a gender that feels different when near any of the seven seas."[1] They stated that it could be used as an umbrella term or as a term in itself.

The second known coining of oceangender was on August 27, 2020 by Harley on the Twitter account NovalieSystem. They defined as a gender "for those who feel connected to the sea/ocean or large bodies of water."[2]

Many other terms have been created that are similar, such as farleogender,[3] oceanic, aquagender, and gendersea.[4]

    Flags

Another version of the oceangender flag, created by NovalieSystem on Twitter.

Likely, the first oceangender flag was released with the first coining of the term. That was by sh2buyaaa on August 7, 2020.[1] With the likely second coining of the term by NovalieSystem on Twitter on August 27, 2020, the flag was shared in the same post.[2] Another oceangender flag was created by FANDOM user StariiArts.
