Multipronoun or multipronominal is the act of going by and identifying with multiple sets of pronouns. There are multiple ways in which one can go by multiple pronoun sets. The most common example of multipronouns is someone who uses she/they or someone who uses he/they, though multipronoun users can go by any combination of pronouns, including neopronouns, and can also have more than two sets of pronouns. Individuals who have two sets of pronouns may have identify as bipronominal, those with three may identify as tripronominal. Those who identify with all pronouns may be panpronominal.

    Multipronoun experiences may include:

    1. Using two sets of pronouns at the same time. One might alternate between pronouns every other sentence or in the middle of a sentence. (When he does not get a haircut, her hair grows long.)
    2. Using different sets of pronouns at different times. This is common for genderfluid individuals, they may feel like one gender one day, and a different gender the next, and they may change their pronouns to reflect that.
    3. Letting other individuals decide which pronouns to use. One may simply let other individuals choose which of one's pronoun sets they want to use.

    History

The term was coined at an unknown point, however it has been used amongst the community since early 2019.[1]

    Flag

The original flag was created by a user who wishes to remain anonymous. The blue and pink represent using pronouns that are traditionally "masculine" or "feminine" (and it is up to the pronoun user to decide what feels masculine or feminine.) The teal and orange represent neopronouns and the yellow represents neutral pronouns.

The alternate flag was coined by Ally from Cryptocrews system on February 27th of 2021. Purple represents a mix of pronoun use, yellow represents diversity, green represents using common pronouns, blue represents using neopronouns, white represents using custopronouns, while black represents no pronouns or any other form of pronoun usage. The speech bubble represents pronoun use in general.

An anonymous wiki user designed an alternate multipronominal flag on June 10, 2021. Black represents neopronouns and other uncommon pronouns, including nounself, nameself, emojiself, it/its, one/one's, and similar pronouns. Blue represents he/him pronouns. Pink represents she/her pronouns. Yellow represents they/them pronouns. White represents using multiple pronoun sets.
