Monocortar is a term used to describe someone who was and/or felt like they were once monogamous, but, due to whatever reason, they are now polyamorous. This includes trauma, neurodivergence, experiences, or anything else. One with this identity may also be erassexual or erasromantic, however this is not always the case.

Examples people who may use this term include, but are not limited to:

    • One who had an abusive monogamous relationship, and feels safer with multiple partners to defend them.
    • One who, due to touch starvation and neglect, is unable to be emotionally and/or physically fulfilled by a single partner.
    • One who, for unknown reasons, is unable to feel emotionally satisfied with only a single partner.
    • One who felt monogamous up until they had a monogamous relationship, and realized that it didn't fit them.

The version of this exclusive to trauma is monotra, while the opposite of this is polycortar.
