Lycangender is a Xenogender and Noungender connected to the fictional disease/curse Lycanthropy. One may experience fluidity between a human gender and a more beast-like one in a similar way to lycanthropy, or one may connect their gender experience/expression specifically to werewolves or other were-creatures. This term can be used on its own or with others.
Those who identify as Lycangender may feel as though they temporarily can't identify with human genders, they may identify strongly with any representation of werewolves, or they may believe that they (or their gender/soul) are genuinely infected with Lycanthropy.
This is a fluid gender identity and will usually accompany another (For example, male and Lycangender), therefore fitting under the Multigender umbrella. Any number of gender identities may accompany this one.
This term is not to be confused with terms like Wolfgender. Although extremely similar, this identity has a stronger connection to spirituality and is inherently fluid.
History and Flags
The term Lycangender was coined by Instagram user @milos_atlantian_art on the 7th of December 2021. The post included both the name and these associated flags:
A gender neutral/non-binary version with a crescent moon on the left side and 7 stripes going from war browns, to white, to purples.
A femme-leaning version with pink/magenta stripes at the bottom instead of purple.
A masc-leaning version with blue/indigo stripes at the bottom instead of purple.
A version of the nonbinary Lycangender flag with no crescent moon. The creator intended this as a neopronoun flag or as a simplified version of the nonbinary flag.
The colours of the flag mean the following:
- Dark brown - Resiliance
- Brown - Loyalty
- Pale brown - Earth
- White - Non-human/Nonbinary
- Light purple - Spirituality
- Purple - Magic
- Dark indigo - The Night
The pronouns associated with (But not exclusive nor essential to) Lycangender are
- Ly (pronounced Lie)
- Cin (pronounced Kin)
- Lyself (Pronounced Lie-self)
|Did you see where Ly went? I knew Ly'd leave ly's wallet behind.
|I love Cin so much! I can't wait for you all to meet Cin.
|Ly did all of that Lyselves!
Included in the same Instagram post was the term Lycasáwolthropy, a spiritual identity coined by Tumblr user @soul-of-lycan in 2020. Defined as:
"To experience a soul or sense of spirituality that, in specific circumstances, undergoes transmogrification comparable to Lycanthropy (The mythical transformation of a person into a wolf).
One can identify as/with Lycangender and Lycasáwolthropy together or separately, as the former is a gender identity and the latter is a spiritual belief/identity
