Kiwihoarder was coined by tumblr user genderpluvisilve on May 18, 2019 and the flag was made on the same day.
The second kiwihoarder flag was created by user Tumblr user Biggie-mothertruckin-Cheese on April 8th of 2022. The colors and symbol are meant to represent those of the kiwi: a bird native to New Zealand, and also the kiwi fruit that grows on the same country.
