Interenby or intenby is an exclusive gender for intersex individuals who identify as non-binary in a uniquely intersex-way. They may feel as though they are an altered form of non-binary, or they may just wish to embrace the intersex part of their identity, despite feeling little to no connection to it.
To be interenby, one does not need to have been assigned X at birth or unassigned at birth. Instead, they simply have to identify as a non-binary in some shape or form, regardless of whether or not they have biological androgynous characteristics.
If someone identifying as interenby has biological neutral or androgynous traits, they may also identify as cisgender, however they do not have to if they feel cis does not match their experiences.
They may or may not be fluid or fluctuate between non-binary identities, or (more specifically) intersex-related non-binary identities (such as inter-aligned.)
This term was coined as many intersex individuals have a unique experience with non-binaryhood, due to their sex. This could overlap with being intergender, or another intersex-exclusive gender.
This term falls under the inter-system, where other similar genders and counterparts are listed.
Subsets to this term includes:
- Intergenderless: an intersex person who is on the agender spectrum.
- Intermulti: an intersex person who is genderfluid, genderswap, or some form of multigender.
- Interneu: an intersex person who has an androgynous and/or neutral gender.
Interenby was coined by FANDOM user Unfunny person420 at an unknown time, and was brought back to surface by Tumblr user varsex-pride on April 8th of 2021. More detail was added by the original creator on May 12th of 2021 along with FANDOM user Cryptocrew.
The interenby flag was coined by Unfunny person420. It has no confirmed meaning. Unfunny person420 used to have a definition, but does not remember it, and cannot find out elsewhere because of the deletion of the original page.
A newer version of the interenby flag was designed by Unfunny person420 on May 12, 2021. It was designed to resemble the non-binary flag. The yellow stripe represents being outside the gender binary, white represents genderfluid and multigender intersex individuals, green represents the unique experiences that some intersex individuals have with their gender, and purple represents genderflux, genderless, and pangender intersex individuals. The flag also has the intersex symbol.
