Imageromantic (most commonly referred to as imagineromantic) is a romantic orientation on the aromantic spectrum defined as the romantic attraction to any gender(s) while the label user prefers daydreaming of scenarios where affection or a romantic gesture is offered, but feels uncomfortable with receiving the affection or gesture(s) in reality. Imageromantic can be paired with any gender-specific romantic orientation.
The sexual counterpart is imagesexual.
History
Imageromantic was first coined on May 3rd, 2019 by tumblr user pop-pop-rockz[1] as 'imagineromantic'. Imageromantic was first described by the creator as the joy of imagining romantic scenarios between the identifier and others, but refusal to act upon said feelings due to lack of interest or fear.
The original post was remade on May 29th, 2021 by the same user[2]. The flags did not change from the original post, but the definition did change to the one currently used. The user states in the original post and the revamped post that he does not identify with imageromantic, and instead exclusively identifies with imagesexual.
The user pop-pop-rockz made a post to clarify the difference between imageromantic and other similar terms, stating that he included imagesexual and imageromantic as alternative names for the terms to prevent confusion[3][4].
pop-pop-rockz made a post on December 21st, 2021 describing that he now identified with imageromantic, and had discovered the 'true meaning' to the definition. He detailed his experiences with things such as affection and described that he felt closer to the identity because of said experiences. He also wrote a new definition for the term, describing the label now as daydreaming of/loving scenarios where compliments and affection are given, but feeling uncomfortable when the affection or compliment is received in person.[5]
Flag
The flag was created in 2019 by the user pop-pop-rockz[1] and consists of 5 stripes with a white and red explosion decal off to the right. The original post described the flag's stripes as; pink for love, red for one's heart and blush, white for the clouds or one's imagination, and the explosion decal for a heartbeat. The remade post describes the flag's stripes as; pink for innocent love and daydreams, red for intense love and desire, white for clouds and daydreams, and the explosion decal for fluttering emotion.
