Genderfrozen or Gendersolid is a term for when a genderfluid and/or genderflux person's gender becomes "solid" or "frozen" for a longer period of time than normal. This term is applicable to both people who can control how their gender changes and to people who can't. The experience may or may not be influenced by a person's mood. It may be due to external factors, which can include, but are not limited to:
- Visiting their unaccepting family and becoming "frozen" in their assigned gender at birth.
- Having a partner and becoming "solid" in a gender their partner may prefer.
- PTSD or traumatizing events.
Genderfrozen does not usually refer to a specific gender identity, but is rather used as a modifier to ones current gender experience or to describe a certain event or occurrence. For example: "My teacher refused to acknowledge that transgender people truly feel the way they do, and I just felt myself becoming gendersolid."
The feeling of being genderfrozen does not have to be a negative experience, it depends on the circumstances under which it occurs and on the feelings of the person experiencing it if it's an uncomfortable or comfortable state.
History
Genderfrozen was coined by Wiki user WasabiBuns on June 20th, 2021.
It originated from a conversation on the LGBTQA+ Wiki Discord server on June 17th, 2021, where a user humorously asked several genderfluid people at what temperature their gender would become "gender solid" or "gender gas".
WasabiBuns later decided to give both genderfrozen and gendergas an actual meaning related to his own experiences with genderfluidity.
Flag
The genderfrozen flag was made on July 3rd by Wiki user Cutecrip. It is based on the genderfluid flag, but the colours were replaced with corresponding shades of blue and white, as if the flag was frozen.
