Epispadias or Epispadic Urethra is an intersex variation[1] that refers to urinary opening located on the upper surface, similar to common hypospadic variations. This occurs in both people with penises and people with vulvas.
For those with penises, the urethra opens on the top of the penis or along the entire length of it.
For those with vulvas, the urethra develops too far anteriorly, the urethral opening is usually wider than typical and located higher than typical. It may occur on the clitoral area, causing the clitoris to be split into two halves.[2] It may also occur on the stomach.[3]
Epispadias is usually present whenever bladder exstrophy or cloacal exstrophy develops (where the abdominal wall and pelvis are not closed and the bladder and other organs are exposed or outside the body), but epispadias can also occur by itself.
