Epigender is a gender (or lack thereof) that is above the gender spectrum. Those who identify as epigender may feel completely detached from the gender spectrum, and may feel non-human as well. Epigender may be considered an identity of beings that are transcendent, or above/superior to humans, such as seraphim, cherubim, incubi, succubi, etc.
Etymology
The term "epigender" comes from the Greek prefix epi-, which means "over" or "above."
History
The original coining of epigender was meant to be an alternative synonym to non-binary and a counterpart to exorgender, created by Tumblr user arco-pluris on August 21, 2018.[1]
The term was recoined by Tumblr user old-gender-plaza (now gender-plaza) on November 22, 2020.[2]
