Boygender is a gender for those who identify with the term "boy," but reject manhood and/or feel disconnect from the term "man." It opposes toxic masculinity and embraces innocence, soft masculinity, non-binary masculinity, and non-binary boyhood.
The term was coined by Tumblr user gender.gay on November 11th, 2019.
The original boygender flag was created by Tumblr user gender.gay in the same post in which the term was coined. The purple-blue represents feminine boys, the pale blues represent a younger version of masculinity, the green represents a more neutral feeling of the word boy (as opposed to man), and the yellow represents non-binary boys.
Another boygender flag was created by Twitter user TurtRose on July 27th, 2021. Pink represents femininity, white represents androgyny, cyan represents masculinity, bluish green represents rejection of manhood, grass green represents softness, and dark green represents rejection of gender binaries.
