There are two horizontal sliders. One on the top half of the image, and the second on the bottom half. The top slider has text that reads "Female" on the left end, and "Male" on the right end. The inside of the slider is a gradient of pink to blue. It has a circle near the centre that's closer to the left. The bottom slider has text that reads "Gendered" on the left end, and "Genderless" on the right end. The inside of the slider is a gradient of white to black. It has a circle near the centre that's closer to the right.
    A visual interpretation of binaflux.

Binaflux (or binafluxgender) is a term used to describe those who are agender/agiaspec and male/miaspec, female/fiaspec, or androgyne/liaspec. A binaflux individual shifts between male and female, meaning they might feel fully male, fully female, partly male, partly female, or equally male and female. At the same time, their feeling of genderlessness fluctuates in intensity, meaning they can feel gendered, genderless, or anywhere in between. The fluctuating feeling of gender is entirely separate and doesn't affect one's binary gender(s).

This could present as any of the following examples:

    Binaflux vs. Other Identities

Binaflux is similar to other multigender and genderflux identities; however, there are important differences that require its distinction. For example, trigenderflux is when someone has three genders that all fluctuate. Meanwhile, binaflux involves three genders, with only one of them fluctuating in intensity. Another example would include demiflux, where someone has one static gender and one fluctuating gender, but those who are binaflux may notice the very amount of genders they experience can change, and none of these genders would be solid.

Binaflux can also be compared to binaryfluid, but this would only apply to the shifting between male and female. It doesn't involve a fluctuating gender or feelings of genderlessness.

    History

The term was coined by Tumblr user synpa-tee on June 12, 2021. The flags were created by the same user on the same day.[1] Everything was shared on Tumblr the day after.[2]

    Flag and Symbol

The binaflux flag has seven stripes. There are three blue stripes of different values, three pink stripes of different values, and a light purple stripe. The blue stripes represent masculinity, men, and man-aligned genders. The pink stripes represent femininity, women, and woman-aligned genders. The purple stripe represents androgyny and androgynous genders.

A circular portion of the flag has been desaturated into greyscale. This is to represent being agender, a partial gender, or in between. Alternatively, it represents a fluctuating lack of gender.

The meanings are the same for the second flag, but the circular portion is now saturated while the rest of the flag is in greyscale.

The binaflux symbol was created by Tumblr user synpa-tee on June 16, 2021. It combines the male, female, and agender symbols.[3]

    Etymology

The prefix 'bina-' is a combination of 'bin-' from binary and 'a-' from agender. The suffix '-flux' is short for fluctuating. It is a suffix that is used for orientations and genders that change or fluctuate in intensity.
