Androgyneutral, originally known as Angineutral, is a gender identity for those who identify with an androgynous gender and a neutral gender. It is a broad term, including:
- One who feels as though their gender is simultaneously androgynous and neutral.
- Someone who's gender is a combination of androgyne and neutrois. It may be static, fluid, or flux.
- One who is only fluid between neutral and androgynous genders.
- One who is multigender and identifies with an androgynous gender and a neutral gender.
- One who fluctuates between androgyny and neutrality.
- One who identifies with all neutral and androgynous genders (pandrogyneutral).
Androgyneutral can also describe someone whose gender presentation is both androgynous and neutral, or someone who switches between the two. Their gender identity is not relevant to how they present.
Etymology
Androgyneutral comes from the words "androgynous" and "neutral" combined.
History
It was originally coined at some point in 2019 by Tumgir user beyond-mogai-pride-flags. It was originally described as "Angineutrality/Androgyneutrality: an androgynous neutrality; a neutral androgyny; the combination of lingender & ningender (neugender + androgyne) or a mixture of femineutrality & mascunetrality (or neutromasculinity & neutrofemininity). Also known as angineutrois, neutrangi and angineugender."[1][2]
Androgyneutral was independently coined by FANDOM user Uncertified Funny on May 14 of 2021, to create a broader term with a more complex definition.
Flags
The angineutral flag was created by beyond-mogai-pride-flags in 2019. It has no confirmed meaning, but it is assumed that the green stripes represent neutrality and the purple stripe represents androgyny.
The androgyneutral flag was created by FANDOM user Uncerified Funny on May 14, 2021. The purple stripe represents androgynous genders. Green represents neutral genders. Black represents the combination of the two.
Another androgyneutral flag was created by FANDOM user Uncertified Funny on May 14, 2021. The pink, blue, and purple stripes represent androgyny and how androgyny is between male and female. The white stripes represent the other genders that androgynous ones are between. The green stripe represents neutrality, and how it is between androgynous genders as well. The purple and green stripes together also represent the combination of the two.
