Ambiguine is an ambiguous gender, a gender associated with ambiguity, or a gender associated with an ambiguous gender presentation.
It is similar to ambigue. The difference between the two terms is that ambigue is a gender identity with multiple interpretations (definitions include: a gender that has a double meaning or is paradoxical, a gender that is in between identities, or a gender that is ambivalent, or obscure), while ambiguine can be a form of gender expression[1] or considered a specific form of ambigue.
It may be similar to androgyne.
History
The term was coined by Tumblr user genderthaumiel on May 19th, 2020.[2] The term was originally designed as an alternative to androgyne, as there have been claims of the terms androgyne and androgynous being intersexist.[3]
Flag and symbol
The flags were created by Tumblr user genderthaumiel on May 19th, 2020. The colours were chosen because they are secondary colours, which represent the ambiguity between primary colours. The symbol was created by Tumblr user mourningmogaicrew on August 13th, 2021 and is based off the androgyne symbol.[4]
