Amatopunk is a subculture and identity surrounding challenging notions of what it means to be in a relationship, defining love, and how important each form of it is to society. It is against amatonormantivity, and how society views aspec people, polyamorous individuals, and others who do not fit into the “right” mold.
Amatopunk can include things like relationship anarchy, loveless aros, romo-aros, normalization of relationships not commonly accepted in society (mlm/wlw/nln, people who don't date at all, queerplatonic relationships, polyamorous individuals, etc.), breaking down gender roles, normalization of trans, genderqueer, and GNC individuals in relationships, and all sorts of other things; but one doesn't necessarily need to do any in order to "count" as amatopunk.
Anybody of any group can identify with amatopunk. It’s a broad, inclusive label for different types of people, and how amatonormantivity affects them and/or their community.
However, amatopunk does not promote or equal the normalization or inclusion of dangerous relationship types, such as pedophilic, nonconsensual, zoophilic, incestuous, or abusive relationships. Amatopunk specifically promotes healthy relationships that respect "comfort, boundaries, communication, and consent."[1]
Amatosonas
Amatopunk, similar to voidpunk, has personas called amatosonas.[2] They are based around flora, such as plants, flowers, mushrooms, and anything similar. This is because the way plants work is fundamentally different from individuals, and it may be seen as relatable for some individuals. For instance, many plants work in large colonies and communicate between on another, but do not "date", some are solitary their entire lives, and so on. It may also be reclamation for some aspec people, who are often jokingly called "plants."
Related identities
Amatopunk has had many similar or related terms made that are based off of it. Examples include:
- Amatian, or amatopunkgender, which is a gender based off of amatopunk, and has three current subtypes, amafloric, amatovic, and amapunkic.[3]
- The amatopunk royalty genders, including priamatopunkic, amatopunkicesse, and royalamatopunkic.[4]
- Amari, an unspecified form of attraction either because you do not prioritize different types, see no distinction between them, or don’t see any form as more important than another. It may be considered a form of attraction based off of amatopunk or relationship anarchy.[5]
History
Amatopunk, and its flag, was created by Tumblr user kenochoric on February 21st, 2021.[1] The stripes on the amatopunk have no specific meanings due to how many groups are included, however the coiner has stated that it was taken from multiple other flags.
After its coining, a blog, called amatopunk, was created for this subculture.[6] On July 28th, a Carrd was created to further explain the amatopunk subculture/identity.[7]
